Limoncello tastings

The results are in.  Both batches came out very good.  Now that I have documented the ratios that I've used, I can tweak them in further trials to suit my tastes best.  What that may be, I have no idea yet.

Neither I or my wife were able to detect any discernible difference between that made with the vanilla sugar and that without.  That came as no surprise to me, as the vanilla scent wasn't overpowering in the sugar and completely got lost by the addition of the lemon.  Maybe an idea next time is to make the simple syrup with a split vanilla bean, and remove that when done.

Next up will be the report on the finished sauerkraut.  I'm not tasting it now as I doubt the two mix very well!

    Looks delicious!

I had a great cocktail at 2 Vine called an Italian Ice Pick, and it had Limoncello in it. I may have to try your recipe and use it in that cocktail.

I would highly suggest that you go visit Limoncelloquest.  That site will give you more than enough to get started.  It's surprisingly easy to make, but to perfect....that's another matter.  It's really fun to see and smell the transformation that it goes through, and better yet to taste!

    Bob --

Followed your comment in my blog to yours. I'm going to throw it into my RSS feed because I'm interested in the idea of local food and sustainability. Also -- I've read quite a bit about limoncello lately, may have to make some of my own!

Thanks!  I started this back when we joined our CSA this past spring.  Most of  the photos from the first two months of our weekly supply that we received can be found here http://www.smallkitchencooking.com/Writings.html  I had to transfer data over when I realized the website had to become more of a blog (but that shall return, as well as the forum which I really want to get going).
