As Euell Gibbons would say "Reminds me of wild hickory nuts!", these babies are wild!  Finally found a few Shagbark Hickory trees.  I saw a few other trees in previous years, but none that I knew that were edible.  While I was collecting a few of these, one almost dropped on our heads.  Freshly gnawed by a squirrel.  I peeled them open and now they are drying with the black walnuts.  If these are as good as I expect them to be, I'll definitely be back next year to see if there's a good harvest !
